Catholicism is the primary religion in Lithuania and Palm Sunday is a big event. Today I went to the beginning of the Palm Sunday service at the Cathedral in the center of Vilnius. As I mentioned in the Kaziukas Fair post, the verba, a dried flower arrangement on a stick, is a Vilnius tradition for Palm Sunday. People also carry carry evergreen bunches and pussy willows. So many people attend the Cathedral service that they have loudspeakers set up outside so people in the square can hear the service. If you didn’t buy a verba at the fair or bring your own bunch of evergreens, you can buy them in the square outside the church.
